Faith Relations
"Theology of the Hammer" is an expression coined by Habitat's founder, Millard Fuller, encouraging us to use the hammer as an instrument to manifest God's love. This simple theology embraces the idea that true religion is more than singing hymns and talking about faith it also includes action.
Founded as a faith-based organization in 1986, Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County is driven by a desire to put faith into action. We believe each house built by Habitat for Humanity serves as a vehicle for witnessing God's love.
There are several ways for your congregation/faith community to become involved with Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County. One of the favorite ways is to join us for an "Apostle Build." An Apostle Build unites twelve 'apostle churches' in the construction of a home, supplying all of the volunteer labor and sharing the cost of construction. Our annual Goshen Apostle Build is in July, followed by the Elkhart Apostle Build in August. We have also had Apostle Builds in Nappanee, Middlebury, Bristol and New Paris.
