Montasia learned about Habitat's homeownership program through a friend and applied for the program in the fall of 2022. Montasia and her family currently rent an apartment where the rent is too high, and she feels unsafe.

Montasia is a single mother of six: ZaRaye, Zalayah, Zuriel, Zamiyah, Zi'iah, and Zi'yei. She wants to provide a home for her children in a safe neighborhood where she knows her neighbors and where her kids can make childhood friends and memories.

She is a warehouse coordinator for Voyant Beauty and is ready to become a homeowner and pay an affordable mortgage. She shared that Habitat's program will allow her to afford her mortgage payments and spend more time with her family.

When Montasia learned she had been accepted into the program, she screamed and was excited. "I knew that it meant our lives would be changing."

Montasia was quick to get her sweat-equity hours, volunteering in the community and at other Habitat family's homes. She chose her lot in Elkhart, on Hope Court, Habitat's newest 8-lot neighborhood. Construction will begin this summer.
