Annie Gibson applied for Habitat’s homeownership program in 2022. She learned about the program through a longtime friend who encouraged her to apply. When she learned that she was accepted into the program, she said, “You just made my day; no, you just made my life!”

Annie is a therapeutic foster parent and has adopted three children, Kamden – age 12; Cierra – age 12; and Michael – age 10. She works part-time for the Boys and Girls Club in Goshen.

When asked what an affordable mortgage meant, she said, “A traditional mortgage was unfeasible for me. Habitat is giving me a chance to afford a home; they made it easier for me to have a home to call my own.” She also said, “Owning my own home will resolve the issues of apartment life.” She looks forward to having a home in a safe neighborhood with a yard and the kids having their own space.

Annie has completed 200 of her 250 sweat-equity hours and participated in Homeownership and Financial Literacy classes. She said it taught her to manage her finances so she can live comfortably and budget for an emergency fund. She also enjoyed helping at the construction site, “Construction helped to build my confidence, and I now feel like I can handle any home repairs.”

The Panel Build for this home is scheduled on August 16, at Viewrail.
