Guadalupé Cortez
A homeowner since 2022, Guadalupé (Lupé) Cortez has created a lasting foundation of hope, stability, and opportunity for her family through determination and the support of a community that believed in her.
At just 20 years old, after the loss of her mother, Lupé became the guardian of her six younger siblings. What could have been overwhelming became her purpose, as she stepped into the role with love and a deep commitment to creating a secure future for her family.
Despite living in crowded conditions—sharing rooms and making do with limited space—Lupé remained focused on something better. Through LaCasa, she took financial classes and learned about homeownership, and with encouragement from a staff member, she applied for a Habitat home. Her goal was simple yet powerful: to give her siblings a place to truly call home and to carry forward her mother’s dream.
Her dream became reality through Habitat for Humanity. With the support of a community that believed in her, Lupé provided more than just a house. She created a foundation for her family. A place with room to grow, space to breathe, and the stability every child deserves. Reflecting on the journey, she shared her gratitude for the people who made it possible, knowing that what once felt out of reach had become a lasting source of hope, security, and opportunity for her entire family.
