Women Build Spring 2020
Building Two Women Build Homes in 2020
What is the Women Build?
The Habitat for Humanity Women Build program recruits, educates, and encourages women to build and advocate for decent and affordable houses in our community.
The Women Build is an opportunity for all women (women-owned and women-led organizations, church groups, service clubs, coworkers, friends, and family) to partner with Habitat to support and build an affordable home for a deserving working family. Each Women Build home is built by 300+ women leaders and volunteers in our community.
Why is it important?
Women make up 50 percent of Habitat for Humanity volunteer force,
yet they account for less than 15 percent of workers on the construction site. The Women Build program was established to encourage the involvement of women in the construction of Habitat homes and to provide an opportunity for women to take a proactive step in serving our community.
How does it work?
Women volunteers from all walks of life work together to raise funds and raise the walls for the Women Build project. Habitat for Humanity recruits groups and teams of up to 20 women. Together these groups will make up the more than the 300 volunteers needed to construct the homes.
Volunteers are asked to donate or raise greater or equal to their age in dollars. (A 45-year-old would donate $45-$50).
Are you ready to build with us?
No experience is necessary. Volunteers work under the guidance of construction professionals, and also alongside other volunteers and future Habitat homeowners. Whether you are learning new skills or simply adding a few to your tool belt, this is a rewarding experience for all involved and improves the community that you share. Women helping women sends a positive and powerful message.
