Teresa Williams applied for Habitat’s Homeownership Program in the fall of 2020 in hopes of owning her own affordable home for her and her 5-year-old grandson Maddox.
Teresa has never had a home of her own and in the fall of 2020, she read about Habitat's Homeownership program and applied. Currently living in a mobile home, where the rent is high she had a need for something far more affordable. Teresa shared that she was overjoyed and speechless when she learned that she had been selected as a partner family in Habitat's program.
Since January of 2021, she has participated in homeownership and financial education classes and has been working towards her required 250 “sweat-equity” hours and saving for an affordable down payment.
Teresa has worked for Valeo in Elkhart as a Production Leader for over 3 years. She has been balancing work, attending Habitat's financial and homeownership classes, and taking care of her grandson.
She chose a lot on 6th Street in Goshen. Construction on her 3 bedroom,
1 ½ bathroom home is scheduled to begin in late July, with support from community corporations, volunteers and Habitat partner families.
Teresa shared, "I won't have to stress and worry every month about not making rent. I'll feel safe and comfortable knowing that Maddox is safe. We will be proud of our home and work hard to take care of it. "
