Macedo Family

Inez is a devoted single mother of three—Alina (11), Roberto (7), and Isaias (5). Since January 2025, she has worked at THOR Industries in cabinet assembly, providing for her family with determination and grit. Originally from Florida, Inez moved to Elkhart to be closer to relatives and build a better future for her children.

For the past three years, she and her children have lived in Housing Authority apartments. She has experienced rising rent—nearly double since they moved in—which has made it difficult to keep up. More concerning is the lack of safety; Inez doesn’t allow her children to play outside, and the family discovered a bullet hole in their wall.

When Inez learned about Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership program through Soup of Success. She looks forward to the safety and stability a Habitat home will provide. Growing up, Inez’s family moved often, and she never had a true sense of stability, something she is determined to give her children.

Homeownership also represents new possibilities for her own future. Inez dreams of going back to school and pursuing a career in healthcare, a lifelong goal. She is excited about celebrating birthdays, hosting sleepovers, and welcoming family for holidays in their very own home.

Inez is especially grateful for the tools Habitat has given her, including financial literacy classes. She says she never realized the importance of budgeting and saving until joining the program. Now, she feels empowered to build not only a home but also a stronger financial future for her family.
