Faith Build
In Memory of Dr. Bill Pletcher

The 2023 Faith Build kicked off Saturday, November 4th, with churches from all over Elkhart County coming together to build and raise the walls for two homes. It was an opportunity to emulate the unity and camaraderie of an Amish barn-raising while making a lasting impact in our community.

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. As a Christian ministry, it is fitting that the church – Christ’s body in the world – is Habitat’s primary partner in this important work.

The Faith Build home for the Taylor family is also being recognized as the Dr. Bill Pletcher Memorial Build in memory of Dr. William D. Pletcher. Bill and his wife, Sarah, lived in Elkhart, where they raised their family, and Dr. Pletcher practiced medicine. They both lived out their faith in Christ, guided by scripture, "Love God with all your heart, mind, and strength," and "Love your neighbor as yourself." Dr. Pletcher passed away on Dec. 20, 2022. Bill and Sarah were longtime supporters of Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County and longtime supporters of their community.

Want to be a Faith Build Partner? Join us anytime during the construction of these two homes in the following ways:

  1. Volunteer: Encourage members of your congregation to roll up their sleeves and join us on the construction site. No prior construction experience is necessary, as our skilled Habitat crew will provide guidance. It's an excellent team-building activity that fosters a sense of togetherness. (There will be additional volunteer opportunities beyond November 4th.)

  2. Financial Support: Consider making a financial contribution to the Faith Build project. Your generous donations will help cover construction costs, purchase building materials, and provide essential support services for the families we serve. Every dollar you contribute brings us one step closer to making a family's dream of homeownership a reality.

  3. Prepare a Meal: Provide a meal for the Faith Build volunteers and Habitat crew on November 4th or any of the Faith Build volunteer days.

  4. Prayers and Blessings: We believe in the power of prayer and blessings. Please keep the Faith Build project and the families we serve in your prayers. Your spiritual support is invaluable.

  5. Spread the Word: Help us raise awareness within your congregation by sharing our mission and the Faith Build project with your members. Encourage them to get involved and be a part of this life-changing experience.

The Faith Build kicked off in November and is expected to go into the new year. If you are interested in participating, please contact kristin@habitatec.com.

"We are God’s hands and feet, here to serve others and show them His love. The tangible experiences that Habitat provides allow you to engage those around you, live your faith, and offer a unique opportunity to love your neighbor."                                                        - Habitat for Humanity
