Sandi McCan

Homeowner of Habitat for Humanity’s fifth home in Elkhart County, Sandi built more than a house in 1989—she helped shape a growing community rooted in pride, responsibility, and connection.

When Sandi moved into her Habitat home with her four sons, it marked the beginning of something lasting. As the first president of the Homeowners Association, she took an active role in bringing families together, organizing meetings, and ensuring homeowners had the knowledge they needed to care for their homes. From sharing maintenance tips to fostering a sense of unity, Sandi helped create a culture where neighbors supported one another and took pride in what they had built.

Her home became a secure foundation not only for her family, but for her sons’ futures. Jimmie served in the Army, including time in Germany, while Ronnie went on to join the Air Force after graduating from Goshen High School. Through the years, the home remained a constant—a place of belonging and growth. Even decades later, the sentiment remained the same. As Ronnie once shared, it would always feel like their “new” home, a lasting symbol of opportunity, hard work, and the enduring impact of Habitat for Humanity.
