Thompson Family
Quinton and Jessica have always rented, but they’ve long dreamed of owning a home where their family could feel safe and stable. Together with their three children—Anthony (11), Zoey (8), Violet (6)—and their niece, Jasmine (19), they’ve been making the most of their three-bedroom apartment at Ashton Pines. For six years, it’s been their home, but space is tight, and Jasmine has been sleeping on the couch. Rising rent costs, safety concerns, and crime in their neighborhood—including having their car’s catalytic converter stolen—have made daily life stressful. Out of concern for their children’s safety, Quinton and Jessica don’t allow them to play outside.
When they first heard about Habitat’s homeownership program through CAPS, they applied but were denied. Instead of giving up, they worked hard to improve their credit and tried again—and this time, they were accepted. “We never really thought we’d become homeowners,” they shared, but Habitat’s support, guidance, and financial literacy classes helped make it possible.
The couple especially enjoyed volunteering and helping build homes for other Habitat families. Through that experience, they discovered a sense of pride that comes from giving back and working toward a future of stability.
Quinton, an artist, looks forward to painting and decorating their new home, while Jessica dreams of a yard where their children can finally play freely. Most of all, they’re excited to provide their family with the safety, stability, and sense of belonging they’ve always wanted.
“We are so grateful,” they said. “We’re ready to provide our children with a home of our own.”
