Morris Family

Julie Morris is a single mother of two, son Emanuel, age 17, and daughter Julie, age 11. Julie works as an associate at Mid-City Supply in Elkhart.

Julie and her children live with her parents; the situation is overcrowded; she shared, "We all share one bathroom."

She learned about Habitat's homeownership program through her parents, who own their own home through Habitat's program.

Julie is excited to be in the program and to have a home of her own, a space for her and her children. Julie completed the homeownership and financial education classes and has been working on completing her 200 sweat-equity hours before construction on her house begins. She has enjoyed meeting new "cool" people while working alongside Habitat volunteers.

Julie's home will be this year's Women Build home, or the Winnebago Industries Women Build. Julie worked on last year's Winnebago Industries Women Build, attended the dedication, and kept the program from last year's dedication. She was excited when she learned that her home would be this year's Women Build.

Owning her own home and having an affordable mortgage based on her income will allow Julie to save more for her family's future. She looks forward to taking her family on a vacation to Florida.

Julie chose her floor plan, a 3-bedroom, 1 ½ bathroom, and 1184 square feet. Her home will be built on Hope Court, Elkhart.
