Riege Family

Laci Riege applied for Habitat’s homeownership program in the spring of 2022 in hopes of providing her family with a safe home. Laci and her two sons, MJ – 8, and Caius- 5, live in an unhealthy, outdated, and unsafe apartment.

Laci works as a food server. She was accepted into the homeownership program in 2022, and since that time, she has completed her required sweat-equity hours and is saving for her down payment. Laci learned about Habitat’s program through one of Habitat’s board members and was excited to learn that she was accepted into the program.

Laci was surprised by how much she learned through Habitat’s financial literacy and homeownership classes. “The classes gave me a different way of thinking about being a homeowner, and I learned how to budget and prioritize my spending.”  She is excited, nervous, and relieved all at once to see the construction on her house begin and is looking forward to working on her own home.

“Owning my own home will break the generational curse of poverty for my family,” she shared. Laci knows that homeownership will allow her to give her children a better life, make them successful, and give her peace of mind.

The Panel Build for this home was part of the Faith Build kick-off on Nov. 4, 2023
