Annual Women Build Set to Begin

Our team is ready to begin construction, two Women Build homes side-by-side, starting May 14th.  Following the "Back on Track" guidelines, we will cap our group sizes at 20 people. Because of the social distancing guidelines, 
we anticipate the construction of the Women Build homes to go into July. 

 

Habitat will be taking steps to ensure the health and safety of our volunteers, and employees.

ReStore Reopens with Safety Measures in Place

As a home improvement thrift store, the ReStore is a significant community resource that has been unavailable
since March 21. We initially closed to provide time to improve our safety measures and mitigate risk for staff, customers, and donors. Today, we are better equipped in both our understanding and in our ability to deliver a safe donor and customer experience in our store in keeping with guidelines provided by the CDC and the Governor of Indiana.

 

With new social distancing and safety measures in place, our ReStore plans to reopen on Monday, May 11th.
Our modified store hours will be from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Saturday and will include limits on the number of shoppers allowed in the store at any one time. we will also be asking all patrons to follow the Governor's guidelines for shipping in public retail.  Please call our ReStore with questions and details about your contact-free donation drop-off available now or to schedule a donation pick-up starting June 1st.

 

Please check back here for store updates. Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to offer the community a place to donate tax-deductible new and gently used home merchandise and purchase various home improvement items at a significant discount. All proceeds from the ReStores support Habitat’s work in providing affordable homeownership – a need that will only continue to grow in our community.

In light of current public health-related concerns surrounding the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease), Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County has decided to close the Elkhart County Habitat ReStore based on the recommendations from the Elkhart County Commissioners and Governor Holcomb’s office. 
 

Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart has also paused all of its build activities as well as partner family programs through April.  Executive Director Greg Conrad shared “While these decisions will impact our work in the near term, our policy reflects our commitment to love our neighbors and safeguard the health of our team, volunteers and Habitat homebuyers and the larger community as a top priority.” 
 

While the Habitat offices will be closed to the public, they continue to plan and prepare for the upcoming build schedule and partner family education program. Staff can be reached by phone or email.

Our Habitat ReStore 

  • Our ReStore is closed to the public through April. We are postponing donation pick-ups until we reopen.

  • You may drop off your donations Monday - Friday from 9 am - 2 pm. Please leave donations outside and ring the doorbell by the glass door so that we know when you've left items. There will not be anyone available for unloading assistance.

  • Please know, we rely on your donated items, so please keep reading to see how you can help.

  • We will continue to evaluate our reopening date in the hopes that we can reopen sooner, but also extending if necessary. We will respond to any further direction by the Governor’s office.
     

Here’s how you can help: ReStore is a key part of how we build homes with local families and this downtime will certainly be a hit to that effort. We will urgently need your support when we return. 

Habitat Volunteers 

  • ​We have canceled volunteer work on the build site, in the Restore and office through April.

  • We are contacting all currently scheduled volunteers to reschedule or cancel their assignments.

Habitat Homebuyers and Homeowners 

  • We have canceled upcoming partner family education classes through April and will communicate those cancellations directly with affected families.

  • Homeownership Information Sessions are canceled through April.
