Johnson Family Build

Johnson Family

Rachel Johnson, a devoted single mother, raises three children—Brennon (20), Jersey (17), and Havana (11)—while also accommodating her grandchild, Evan (3), and Evan's mother, Emma, in a modest three-bedroom trailer. Space, sleeping arrangements, and even adequate heating pose daily challenges for the family in their crowded living situation.

Rachel serves as the Production Manager for Soup of Success at Church Community Services. It was through her connections there that she first learned about Habitat for Humanity's homeownership program. The connection was made while she volunteered at the home of a family participating in the Habitat program.

Dreaming of providing stability and security for her children, Rachel eagerly applied to Habitat's program and was accepted in the fall of 2022.  She firmly believes that having their own home will alleviate the tensions inherent in housing three teenagers, a preteen and a toddler, under one roof. Rachel anticipates an improvement in family dynamics and a reduction in overall stress levels once they move into their new home.

As part of the Habitat program, Rachel participated in homeownership and financial literacy courses. Through these, she grasped the significance of building savings and adopting a budgeting strategy that effectively allocates funds toward her future security—a way of paying herself forward.

The Johnson home will be a two-story dwelling with six bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a total area of 1,848 square feet.
